Being the first post of 2012 as well as the first of Janathon as well as the soaking I received as well as the lack of enthusiasm I had about the run at all, I simply couldn’t decide on another title. And if the posts are this lame at the start of the month, I know what I’ll be reading when I need to sleep by about the 14th…!
New years eve exceeded all expectations and was really rather good. I’m not normally a fan of the new year process but a few decent pints with some thoroughly decent people in a fantastic venue made it all good. They were, it sould be said, JogBlog, Jogofthedead and her husband Ben and the venue was Googies Art Cafe in Folkestone. A fantastic place to eat, relax and enjoy any part of the day, really, with fantastic food when required. I recommend it. (Incidentally, it’s also about 100 yards from the last truly epic NYE I experienced in the Pullman back in 1998 when it was somewhat rougher than it is of late. Moving on..)
The sad part of the event was not finding a pillow until around 4.30 this morning and feeling somewhat below par when I did finally emerge into the daylight world of today.
But Janathon provides all the incentive needed to head out of the door, so I took the opportunity of feeling rough and knowing I’d only half-heartedly attempt anything I did by going for a half-hearted run. An ambling pace as well as a sensible attitude were adopted, I feel, which will hopefully assist me on my way to injury free running through the month.
I set out with the hope of getting far enough from home to make a reasonable mileage before I caved in to my desire to be lazy and head back. And got a thoroughly respectable 6 miles into the bargain through a plod to and through Victoria Park (scene of the Ashford 5k) before a roundabout route home. Soaked after 5 minutes, I got properly drowned 1.5 miles from home as a car produced a tidal wave from a puddle to soak me from the chest down (I gave up trying to see after my glasses on/off game got boring and I decided that a focused view of raindrops was neither better nor worse than a view of nothing, hence being in the wrong place at the wrong time and taking no avoiding action. At least it was only 1.5 miles of full-on soaking cold water, I guess.)
Tomorrow will see a few intervals outed, I think, over a short distance I feel, as well a go on some weights and some extreme gardening.
I like 2012 so far.
149 runs; 100 exercises; 50 cycles to go.
